Cancer Pharmacogenomics PhD Vacancy @ Amrita Centre for Nanosciences & Molecular Medicine

Highly motivated candidates are invited to apply for a Ph.D. position in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at the Cancer Discovery Biology Laboratory (PI: Dr. Sujit Nair) at the Amrita Centre for Nanosciences & Molecular Medicine, Amrita University, Cochin.

The position involves work in the field of cancer pharmacogenomics.

Candidates should have either an M.Sc. in biological sciences or M. Pharm. in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.

Only candidates who have already qualified for CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR fellowships will be considered for this position.

9. Instructions for Completing the Application Form :

i. The application shall be in the prescribed form which can be had from the Admission Officer by sending a crossed Demand Draft for Rs.900/- drawn in favour of “VIT University”, payable at Vellore.

ii. All entries in the application form must be legible and should be written by the candidate in his/her own handwriting.

iii. The name should be entered as in the Degree Certificate. Change in name/Initial, if any, should be supported by Gazette notification.

iv. Recent passport size photograph should be affixed in the application on the space provided and the same should be attested by a competent authority.

v. They should indicate clearly the School/Centre and Area of research in the space provided in the application form.

vi. Applications from candidates who are currently employed must be routed through their employers.

vii. Attested copies of the following documents must be enclosed with the completed application form.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

I. In all the Faculties (Arts, Commerce, Management, Education, Law, Social Sciences, Oriental Languages, Science, Technology, Pharmacy, Engineering) a candidate is eligible for registration/admission to Ph.D. Courses in a subject, if she/he:
i) has obtained a Post-graduate Degree from a recognized University securing not less than 55% marks (50% for SC/ST candidates) at the Post-graduate degree and
ii) has qualified in UGC-CSIR/NET/GATE or SLET examination of Government of Andhra Pradesh or
iii) has a M.Phil. Degree through regular mode in the concerned or in an allied subject approved by Osmania University. OR
iv) has qualified in the Ph.D. eligibility Test (2009 -10) conducted by Osmania University.

Further, in all the Faculties, the criterion at 1 (i to iv) is essential qualification for Ph.D. admission / registration and however, in the Faculties of Engineering, Technology and Pharmacy the criteria at 1 (i) is the essential qualification for registration to Ph.D. in a subject and the criterion at 1 (ii & iii) may be treated as desirable. (Candidates who have been awarded a Junior Research Fellowship through a National Level test e.g . UGC/CSIR/ ICAR/ ICMR JRF etc. and candidates who have RGNF fellowship and whose M. Phi l degree is awarded (in case of SC/ST candidates) are also eligible for Ph.D. admission / registration . The Ph .D. Admission is subject to the availability of vacancies with the Research Supervisor in the concerned Department in the current Academic Year.

Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu invites applications for walk-in interview on 10th & 11th May 2010 from motivated candidates, who have passed M.Sc. and cleared CSIR/UGC NET, DBT JRF examination or ICMR JRF examination for Ph.D. Programme of the institute.

IIIM is a constituent laboratory of CSIR and a multi-disciplinary institute with modern state of the art research facilities, experienced faculty with particular interests in the new drug discovery from the natural products, pharmacology, biology & biotechnology. The applicants may be placed in any of the specialized areas mentioned below.

PHARMACOLOGY :

General Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics, drug-metabolism and toxicology with focus on the disease areas of cancer, inflammation, diabetes and drug-resistant infections.

1. EMPLOYMENT :

Candidates who are working in a well equipped Educational / Scientific / R&D / Industrial / Governmental Organisations and in Colleges affiliated to the Universities and engaged in Scientific / Technological / Engineering / Managerial activities, as the case may be, are eligible for admission as external candidates and shall continue to work in their own organizations.  Faculty members of the J.N.T. University Hyderabad and its constituent colleges shall be admitted as internal candidates.

Candidates working in colleges affiliated to the universities are eligible, provided

(i) the place of research work is either the institution in which they are working or the constituent college / unit of  the university, where necessary facilities are available.

(ii) The Research Supervisor is either from JNT University Hyderabad or from any recognized institution / organisation.

(iii) If the Supervisor is from outside JNTUH, then a Co-Supervisor from JNTUH is compulsory.

IV. SUPERVISOR (for External Registration) :

1. Candidates applying for External Ph.D. may identify and suggest the Supervisor. An acceptance letter as per the proforma given should be attached. The suggested Supervisor may not be allocated. However the allotment is finalized by University authorization.

  1. Professors, Asso. Professors and Asst. Professor of JNT University Hyderabad who possess, a Ph.D. degree, a minimum of five years of academic / research experience and published atleast 2 referred Journal papers and 2 reviewed Conference papers, to their credit, will be deemed as Supervisors.
  2. Persons working  in  Educational / Scientific / Industrial / Governmental Organisations, who possess a Ph.D. degree, a minimum of  five  years of academic / research experience and published atleast 2 referred Journal papers and 2 reviewed Conference papers, to their credit, will be deemed as external supervisors.
  3. Candidates may have either Internal or External Supervisors.
    1. In the case of interdisciplinary areas of research, a co-supervisor may also be permitted in addition to the supervisor, provided the supervisor and co-supervisor are from different disciplines.
    2. Candidate must enclose biodata of the proposed supervisor(s) and evidence to show that he/she satisfies the qualifications laid down.  They must enclose attested copies of the degree certificates of the supervisor(s).
    3. The candidate concerned area is not offered by any recognized guide of the candidate admission may not be permitted or he may be permitted to change the area.

PLAN OF RESEARCH WORK (for External Registation) :

Candidates must submit, along with their application form, a well conceived plan of research work, with evidence of having initiated a preliminary study (at least 500 words).

  1. PLACE OF RESEARCH WORK AND FACILITIES AVAILABLE (for External Registration):

In the case of external candidates, working in their organizations, details regarding the availability of the required research facilities at the place of work must be given.  The place of work must be recognised by the University before the application for admission is considered.

External candidates working in their own organizations must produce, from the Head of the Organisation, a Certificate of “No Objection” for the candidate to take up the Research work, and permission for the supervisor from the university to visit the organization periodically to monitor and assess the work of the candidate.

  1. VIII. MODE OF SELECTION :  Based on Entrance Examination and Interview.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION:

  • An entrance examination is of 100 multiple choice questions.
  • Duration of entrance examination is 2 hours.
  • Minimum qualifying marks are 25% for SC/ST candidates and 40% for others.
  • The date of entrance examination, time table and entrance examination syllabus will be intimated through web site to the eligible candidates and details will be displayed in JNTUH website www.jntuh.ac.in.

INTERVIEW:

Interview will be conducted for the candidates qualified in the

  • Entrance examination conducted by JNTUH, Hyderabad.

  • The candidates who qualify the NET / SLET need not write the written test however they should be through in the interview process.

Candidates must collect their Hall Tickets, from the Director, Admissions, JNT University Hyderabad, Kukatpally, Hyderabad one day prior to the examination and no further correspondence will be made in this matter.

IX. Candidates  who are qualified in Entrance Test must appear before the admission committee for an interview at Hyderabad at their own cost. The date and time of interview will be as displayed in JNTUH website www.jntuh.ac.in. No separate intimation.

The University reserves the right to cancel admission  / registration of any candidate to the research programme at any stage if it is noticed  that the data furnished / certificates enclosed are incorrect.

In case of any disputes concerning admissions to the courses of JNT University Hyderabad, the jurisdiction shall remain with the Courts or Consumer forum in Hyderabad only.

ANNEXURE - I

Tentative  Vacancies:   These vacancies are calculated considering the vacancies at the eligible Supervisor’s of the respective departments of Universities. Each Supervisor can Supervise (guide) only eight candidates including Full Time, External and Internal registration. These No. of vacancies may vary as the Supervisor from outside JNTUH may also be included (if found suitable). However if the Supervisor is from outside JNTUH, then an Internal Supervisor from JNTUH is compulsory.

X. FEE :

On selection for admission, candidates shall be required to pay the prescribed admission fee Rs. 200/- and the Registration  fee of Rs. 20,000/- per annum for External Research Programme and for Rs. 10,000/- per annum for Full Time Research Programmes.  Thereafter the fee has to be paid every semester till the successful completion of the programme and submission of thesis or cancellation of the admission which ever the case may be.

FELLOWSHIP: Candidates selected for the Full Time Ph.D. Research Programme shall be granted a consolidated fellowship of Rs. 8000/- p.m. for a maximum period of 3 years. The fellowship may be enhanced to Rs. 10,000/- during the third year based on the progress of research work. The candidates who are joining with stiphend from JNTUH should execute a bond stating that “The stiphend will be refunded if he fails to complete his Ph.D. within permitted time”.

Details of fee payment particulars for Full Time / External Research Programmes and evaluation  procedure can be known from the  Director, R & D Cell, JNTUH, Kukatpally, Hyderabad.

XI. GENERAL :

Application complete in all respects (in A4 size) accompanied with a Demand Draft for Full Time / External Research Programmes is Rs. 1,000/- (in case of SC/ST candidates Rs. 500/- for Full Time Research Programme) drawn in favour of “THE REGISTRAR, JNTUH, HYDERABAD” payable at Hyderabad on any nationalized bank as Application Registration fee and five(5) self addressed stamped envelopes of size 22 x 10 cms. (affixing Rs. 5.00 stamps), is to be submitted to “The Director, Admissions, JNT University Hyderabad, Kukatpally, Hyderabad - 500 085” either in person or by Registered post / Courier on or before  30th April, 2010 by 4. pm.

The University is not responsible for delay or loss of application in transit.

The candidate (Graduate from any university recognized by UGC) desirous of taking Ph.D. admission to the following courses should apply to The Registrar, Solapur University in the prescribed form on or before 22nd March 2010 the prospectus along with the application form may be downloaded from http://su.digitaluniversity.ac or can be obtained form university office from in person or by remitting the prescribed amount by D.D. drawn on may Nationalized Bank payable at solapur in favour of The Registrar, Solapur University, Solapur along with self addressed envelop (11X9) affixed stamps worth Rs.20/?. There may be a possibility of increase or decrease in the Ph.D. admission seats.

Pharmacy – 2 seats

Conditions of Eligibility :

1 The candidates must have Master’s Degree from any U.G.C. recognized institution.
2 The candidate desirous to be admitted to the Ph.D. programme shall appear for the
Entrance Test conducted by the University.
3 The candidates other than SC/ST category who have secured atleast 55% marks (without grace) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination, are eligible for this test. SC/ST/PH/VH (PH?Physically Handicapped. VH/Visually Handicapped i.e. Blind) category candidates who have secured atleast 50% marks (without grace) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this test.
4 Syllabus for Entrance Test shall be equivalent to the NET / SET / GATE / Postgraduate Level of the concerned subject. In the Entrance Test, the candidate’s knowledge about the subject and research aptitude shall be tested. Entrance Test, based on multiple
choice types, shall be of 100 Marks. Out of this, 50 marks shall be for concerned subject knowledge and 50 marks for research aptitude. Admission shall be only on the basis of performance in Entrance Test.

5 Based on the merit in the Entrance Test, the candidate shall appear for an interview, which shall be conducted by the respective Department / School / Recognized Institution / Affiliated College of the University. At the time of interview, candidates re expected to discuss their research interest / area.

6 The candidates, who have qualified SET / NET / UGC?CSIR / JRF / GATE or qualified for M.Phil. through the Entrance Test of the Solapur University or registered for M.Phil. through Entrance Test and desire to convert their registration from M.Phil. to Ph.D. programme or completed M.Phil. degree of Solapur University, in respective subjects, need not appear for the Entrance Test. However, in such cases, for deciding merit, only the percentage of marks obtained by the candidates at post graduate level shall be taken into consideration. Such candidates shall also have to appear for interview. Further, if such candidates wish to appear for the Entrance Test, they may do so and in that case, their score in Entrance Test shall be considered for evaluation of merit as prescribed.

7 The candidates who have completed their M.Phil. course work from Solapur University, Solapur or any other university recognised by the UGC shall be exempted for the Pre. Ph.D. / Ph.D. course work. However, such a candidate will have to appear in the entrance test as applicable to a fresh candidate directly joining Ph.D.

8 Merit list shall be prepared as under,
a. In case of candidates appearing for the Entrance Test, total marks secured in the Entrance Test shall be considered for deciding merit.
b. In case of candidates exempted from the Entrance Test, only the percentage of total marks secured in the Post Graduate examination shall be considered for deciding merit.
c. The interview shall be applicable to all the candidates.
d. Admission shall be given on the basis of the combined merit list prepared on the basis of (a) and (b) above.

9 There will be 100 multiple choice objective questions and each questions will carry one mark.
10 There will be no Negative Marks for wrong Answer.
11 Document List : (Attested Copies of following documents)
1. Final Year Mark list of Master’s Degree or of equivalent.
2. Marriage certificate/Gazette Copy (in case of change in name)

3. Validity Certificate/Caste Certificate issued by Competent Authority from Maharashtra supporting their claim (except for Open category).
4. Medical Certificate given by Competent Authority in prescribed format in case of Blind/Visually or Physically Handicapped Candidates.

Application Form :

The cost of the prospectus is Rs.200/- (in person) and Rs.230/- (by post)

Fees :

The Entrance examination fees Rs. 1000/- for open category candidate and SC/ST/ DTNT/OBC/PH/VH - Rs.700/-. The examination fees can be paid by a demand draft drawn on any Nationalized Bank payable at Solapur in the name of “Finance & Account Officer, Solapur University, Solapur”. Examination fees is non refundable.

Centres :

Entrance examination will be held in Solapur University Campus.

Reservation of the seats will be as per Maharashtra Government norms.
Decision of the Admission Committee will be final.

Those who submit the application form downloaded from the university website http://su.digitaluniversity.ac should remit Rs.200/? in cash or by Demand Draft in favour of “Finance & Account Officer, Solapur University, Solapur, at publication section and the receipt of same should be attached alongwith the hard copy of the application form at the time of submission to the university.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATES

a) The Examination Hall /Room shall be opened 30 minutes before the time specified for the commencement of the examination. No candidate who is late more than 20 minutes after the commencement shall be admitted to the examination.
b) A Seat marked with a Seat number shall be allotted to each candidate. The candidate shall be required to find out and occupy the seat allotted to him/her atleast 20 minutes before the commencement of the examination.
c) No candidate shall be allowed to use a calculator in the examination Hall/room. Cellular Phones, Pagers, Mobiles etc. are not allowed in the examination Hall/room.
d) Any candidate found guilty of using unfair means or of misconduct of any nature in the examination hall/room shall be liable to be disqualified for future examinations.
e) Each candidate shall have to produce his/her admit card on demand by the Coordinator Invigilator/Examination Superintendent/Observer etc.
f) The candidates shall have to abide by any instructions that may be announced by the Superintendent/Invigilator in the examination hall/room.
University reserves right of changing vacant Ph.D. seats.

Exemption from appearing written Test :

Exemption from the prescribed qualification :

For admission to the Ph.D. programme in a related subject in the faculty, applicants fulfilling the following criteria shall be treated as eligible.

a) Persons working in National Laboratories � Institutes/Government/Private Organization nominated/Sponsored by the respective employer. These persons should have a Post Graduate Degree and holding rank of Assistant Director/ or above.

Above mentioned rule will also be applicable to the foreign candidates who have obtained a Masters Degree from the statutory Indian Universities.

b) Persons with exceptional abilities passed Graduate Degree Examination with 50% of marks and with 15 years experience after graduation in related fields.

c) Senior citizens of age 60 years and above with graduate degree with 50% marks. In exceptional cases at the discretion of Vice Chancellor for Senior citizen.

d) The fellow members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and / or Institute of Cost and Works Accountants and / or having qualification of C.S. shall be held eligible for registration for Ph.D. in the subject in the concerned Board of Studies in the faculty of Commerce provided the they possess a Bachelor's Degree of any statutory University. Such candidate should have at least 5 years experience.

e) A Graduate in any faculty who has developed important new techniques (new for the country) or designed and fabricated special instruments or apparatus which are deemed by competent judge to be a valuable contributions to engineering/Pharmacy may be permitted by the Research and Recognition Committee of concerned faculty on the recommendation of the appropriate Board or Boards of studies to submit his thesis for the Ph.D. Degree in that faculty. Such a candidate must have at least five years standing as a Bachelor of concerned faculty.

f) Application for research in inter-disciplinary areas and from applications belonging to a faculty or subject other than the faculty or subject in which the research is proposed to be done and from the international candidates (those who have not obtained the Master's degree from Indian Universities) shall be considered on the basis of the proven ability and aptitude of the researcher for such kind of research. Such proposal shall be examined by the guide and the Head, Place of research before giving provisional admission. The admission will be confirmed after the Research and Recognition Committee/s concerned, approves the topic. Detailed procedure for admission should be evolved by the concerned faculty. Five years work experience in related field is necessary for such candidates.

g) Admission percentage for foreign candidates (those who have not obtained Master's Degree from Indian Universities) will be 50% or equivalent GPA

Eligibility for Admissions:

Any Higher Degree of BITS or its equivalent with a minimum of 60% aggregate in the qualifying examination. Any applicant with qualification equivalent to Integrated first degree of BITS will be first examined for suitability to one of the higher degree programmes of the Institute. Such candidates may first be admitted to the M.E./M.Phil. programmes offered by the Institute subject to the eligibility conditions. Shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test/interview for selections. Selected candidates will be given financial assistance in the form of either a fellowship of any government agency or of the Institute, project or teaching assistantship, full/partial tuition waiver or a combination of these. Such selected candidates will be required to participate in teaching and any other developmental activities of the Institute under the guidance of a mentor.
Industries and R & D Organizations collaborating with BITS can sponsor candidates to work for Ph.D under the Ph.D Aspirants Scheme. Under this Scheme such Employed professionals working in Industries and R&D Organizations having long experience and proven competence aspiring for Ph.D. programme will be considered and will be allowed to pursue their research at their own locations of work. Employed Professionals working in Industries holding any of the BITS degree may also be considered under this scheme.
