STATISICS IN CLINICAL TRIALS
October 26-30, 2009
Statistics play an essential part throughout any clinical trial, from planning, conduct, interim analysis, final analysis and reporting. The statistical approaches are used in devising the randomization schedules, calculation of sample sizes for a study, criteria for measuring treatment differences and analysis of response rates. This training aims to introduce the basic principles of statistics employed in clinical trials.
Workshop Duration: 5 days
Eligibility Criteria The workshop would be open to:
• Applicants with graduate/ post-graduate qualifications in: Medical and allied fields like dentistry, homeopathy, ayurveda and veterinary science, statistics and
pharmacy
• Candidates with graduate qualifications in: Biological sciences (microbiology, biotechnology, botany, zoology), basic science (chemistry), nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social sciences with interest in clinical research may also attend.
Topics to be covered
Introduction to clinical Trials; Basic consideration in trial design & common trial designs; randomization and blinding; introduction to statistical principles; sampling distribution; tests of significance; p-value; confidence intervals; clinical & statistical significance; introduction to statistical computing using SAS; analysis of continuous and categorical data; sample size estimation and issues related to censored data; issues in efficacy evaluation and safety assessment; statistical section of a protocol and statistical analysis plan.
